TANK: A Chair Design by Fabrizio Alborno

A Unique Expression of Dematerialization

Italian designer Fabrizio Alborno introduces TANK, a chair that challenges traditional notions of form and function. With its distinctive design and dematerialized structure, TANK stands out as a true work of art.

The TANK chair, part of the Vessel Collection, is a testament to Alborno's philosophy of dematerialization. The chair's form takes center stage, with its massive structure and visible bolts and screws. Composed of tubular metal, wood panels, and a cotton cushion, every element of the chair is completely disassembled and traceable to its original state.

Constructed with varnished square or cylindrical metal tubing, the chair's seat is made of 100% natural beeswax-finished wood panels. The cushion is crafted from soft cotton, ensuring both comfort and style.

The TANK chair is not only a design marvel but also a practical piece of furniture. Its painted iron frame provides durability, while the seat options of leather or cotton offer versatility. The chair is available in three frame colors: brick red, dove gray, and anthracite. With dimensions of L 45 W 42 H 80, the TANK chair is suitable for various spaces and design preferences.

Alborno's design journey for the Vessel Collection began in April 2006 at the Fuori Salone in Milan. Since then, the collection has been showcased at various prestigious events, including the International furnishing show in Cologne and the World Congress of Architecture in Turin. The TANK chair has garnered attention and acclaim, becoming a symbol of Alborno's innovative approach to design.

One of the key challenges Alborno faced during the creation of the TANK chair was to utilize readily available structural elements and panels. By incorporating commercial metal structures and bolts, Alborno was able to create a design that is both unique and accessible.

The TANK chair's exceptional design and craftsmanship have earned it recognition in the design world. In 2014, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious accolade celebrates the chair's outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. With its dematerialized form and striking aesthetic, the TANK chair continues to inspire awe and admiration.
